What to do in Montepulciano in August?

As every summer, there are many events in Val di Chiana and the province of Siena. Concerts, festivals and tastings, shows and markets mark the calendar of the various cities in the area including Montepulciano which offers several perfect opportunities for all visitors choosing to spend the holidays here.
The events of the tradition in Montepulciano
The most classic and known among the summer events of Montepulciano is the Bravio delle Botti, a challenge between the eight historic districts through the streets of this hamlet that still retains its medieval layout. Now at its 47th edition, this event, highly expected by the citizens and visitors of Montepulciano, covers the last week of August, concluding on Sunday 25 with the actual race.
Starting on Saturday 17 of August with the proclamation of the Gonfaloniere, on the 18th there will be the presentation and exhibition of the Panno del Bravìo and on Thursday 22 the traditional Corteo dei Ceri in a Montepulciano with the electricity turned off to give light to the streets only with the torches. Finally, the traditional appointments on Sunday 25 that, from morning to evening, will make the day unforgettable.
Looking forward to the Bravio, the tradition of the Bruscello Poliziano popular theater will be staged in the Piazza Grande of Montepulciano every evening from Sunday 11 to August 15 with the show Pia de ’Tolomei by the Compagnia Popolare del Bruscello.
Food and wine events in the hamlet of Montepulciano
Under the sky of August 10, Calici di stelle cannot be missing also this year. Tasting of locally produced DOC and DOCG wines will be accompanied by guided tours of the city, shows and live music and dinners with typical dishes. The event will continue on 11 August in nearby Valiano following the traditional Fiera di San Lorenzo, an event established here on 10 August 1782 to promote local productions.
The Nobile DOCG and Rosso di Montepulciano DOC wines will be protagonists also on August 16th within the Cantine in piazza. Local products and live music will complement the tastings of the evening that will start at 8 pm. Traditional dishes will be the masters of the seventeenth edition of the “A Tavola con il Nobile” food and wine competition, a challenge in the kitchen between the eight districts of Montepulciano of which the winner will be announced on Sunday 18 August.
The events dedicated to art and music in Montepulciano
At the Museo Civico Pinacoteca Crociani, the exhibition “Leggere” (Reading) by the photographer Claudio Montecucco will reveal to visitors the magic of the eyes immersed between the lines of the books. A work realized by the artist over 15 years and exhibited in Montepulciano until September 30th.
Lastly, from August 28th to September 1st, in the nearby Acquaviva arrives the 23rd edition of Live Rock, an event in five evenings with over 100 artists and original and international projects. The festival is also characterized by its support for solidarity initiatives, this year with Intersos and Amnesty International, but also for the attention to the environment using eco-glasses (reusable and washable) and biodegradable tableware.
